The M Factor Film Screening Illuminates Menopause + Loopwell, Montclair’s Wellbeing Social Club
Loopwell rolls out the red carpet in Montclair, NJ on Monday for filmmakers Tamsen Fadal and Joanne Lamarca Mathisen, for the first NY-NJ screening of their documentary, The M Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause.
The film reveals the widespread challenges women face during menopause, from racial bias to gender-ignorant care, and also outlines progress in the fight to center women’s experience in healthcare, medical research and the national conversation.
Once only whispered about, menopause is a journey during the life of virtually every woman, and its symptoms can last as long as a decade or more. That’s adding in peri- and post-menopausal years, when hormones are either raging or vanishing, depending on which side of the moment of menopause a woman is passing through.
“Tonight, we’re thrilled to host M Factor executive producers Joe LaMarca Mathisen and Tamsen Fadal for an intimate screening and fireside chat,” said Deb Looney, Loopwell’s founder and chief executive. “Just listening to all the experts in this field we’ve brought to Loopwell made me realize what I had been missing from my own menopause path. I was completely misguided by my doctor for years. I have a 22-year-old daughter, and thanks to women like Tamsen and Jo, she wont go through what I did and will have a completely different experience.”
Over the past 15 months, Loopwell has created a welcoming space where members and guests can choose from educational, experiential and wellbeing programming geared toward women’s health to empower themselves on their self-care journey. In an increasingly isolated, post-pandemic world, people need in-person community more than ever, and Loopwell is the right venue for our time. Staffer and Reiki Master, Jen Seaman, reports that “a-ha” moments occur at Loopwell on a pretty regular basis, where people realize something about themselves that is life-changing.
“Although we are not exclusive to women, we are very passionate about women's health. Mathisen and Fadal are leaders in the menopause movement that Loopwell strives to amplify, and we are honored to have them here” Looney said. The unique space and mission has lured notable speakers in the field of women's health and human wellbeing, luminaries like Sharon Malone, MD, Aditi Nerurkar, MD, MPH and Deepak Chopra MD (official).
“As women, we need to advocate for each other. But why can’t learning about our best health be fun?” said Loopwell Chief Marketing Officer Christina D'Angelo, sipping a trademarked Meno-Mocktail in the sustainably designed space.
“It’s amazing what we can achieve when we know we’re not alone,” said Kanan Kapila, Loopwell’s spiritual wellbeing director.
In a breathtaking, loft-like space that inspires both focus and relaxation, Loopwell offers events and programming for women's heath, as well as an enticing array of wellbeing activations, like breath experience, sound bathing, somatic tapping, cold plunging and of course yoga and meditation classes.
